3D Art - The Satimane
Satimane – a cold-climate predator designed for anatomical realism
About
The Satimane is a creature I designed by mixing elements of deer and owls into something that feels soft, strange and surprisingly believable. I imagined it living in snowy mountain forests, sneaking through the trees, using its long limbs for balance, and relying on its bright owl eyes to hunt in low light. Every part of it has a purpose, from the heavy winter coat to the hand-like forelimbs.
Tools Used
- Blender (models, textures, rigging & posing)
- Adobe Photoshop (art assets, editing renders)
What I Did
I began by sketching different silhouettes until I found a shape that felt elegant and slightly eerie. After that, I sculpted the creature in Blender with extra attention on the face, the forelimbs and all the fluffy details. I hand-painted the textures, created several hair systems to build the layered winter coat, and rigged it so I could pose it naturally for the final render and poster.
Design Highlights
Winter adaptation: Built for winter with a dense coat and a steady posture suited for snowy terrain.
Front limbs: Hand-like front limbs that allow climbing, grasping and knuckle-walking.
Owl features: Owl inspired traits like a facial disk and glowing eyes for depth perception in dim light.
Environmental fit: Designed every feature to support how the creature would survive in its environment.
What I Loved About This Project
I really enjoyed designing a creature where the anatomy actually made sense and every detail had a clear function. Sculpting the Satimane was fun, but the real challenge came from working with fur and hair for the first time. It was humbling to figure out how to make it look natural, and seeing the final render come together made the effort very rewarding.
