I'm Marit, Hi!
Hi, I’m Marit Bouma and I’m a 2D/3D artist and designer based in Arnhem.
My love for games and art started when I was about five years old. I spent hours playing Mario Bros on my Nintendo DS and tried to draw the characters I saw on screen. Later I discovered Pokémon, which only strengthened my fascination with creatures, worlds and character design.
Looking back, that was the moment I realised how much I enjoy imagining and creating things that do not exist yet.
I started out studying Graphic Design, which shaped the way I think visually and gave me a strong sense of style, clarity and composition. Even though I eventually moved toward game art, that background still influences everything I make. It allows me to move confidently between illustration, 3D modelling, visual design and more structured graphic work. I enjoy working across different disciplines and I think that flexibility is one of my strengths.
During my CMGT bachelor I focused on developing my 2D and 3D art skills and creating projects that felt meaningful. I worked on both solo and team-based experiences, including several client projects. Seeing my work used by real audiences, from young children at AquaZoo to university students learning about microplastics, made me realise how much I enjoy creating approachable and visually clear experiences that people can immediately understand.
What I love most is bringing ideas to life, whether through a character, an environment or a small interactive world. I like creating things that feel intuitive, inviting and expressive without adding unnecessary complexity.
Outside of work you can usually find me reading anything from romance to horror, listening to music, gaming or spending time with my cat Barry, who prefers to sit on my lap and quietly supervise whatever I am doing.
